It’s pretty simple to get started with an ecology garden in most cases.
STEP BACK
Before making any major changes to your ecology garden, allow it to grow on its own for as long as possible (ideally a full year).
PATHS AND EDGES
Mow paths to allow you to navigate your garden. Mow edges to let neighbors know you’re being intentional.
WATCH AND LEARN
Walk your paths and identify every species you come across. Notice how each species changes over time. Research every species to learn more about it.
MANAGEMENT
Remove any nonnative species that tries to dominate the garden or doesn’t provide anything to the food web. This takes careful observation and research. Try to find uses for any species you are removing.
SHARE KNOWLEDGE
Join the Discord and share what you are discovering with others to maximize your learning.
AIM FOR BIODIVERSITY
When considering actions to take, think about what might improve biodiversity, as this will stengthen the local food web.
